Ohio Department of Insurance Adopts Transitional Relief Extension

In February 2017, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that they would extend relief for grandmothered / transitional health plans through calendar year 2018. Before this announcement all small group and individual health plans still on grandmothered / transitional plans were to be forced over to PPACA (ObamaCare) compliant plans at the end of 2017. This extension still had to be adopted by the states in order for the carriers to extend this relief to groups and members.

On March 23, 2017, the Ohio Department of Insurance announced the adoption of this extension and the different carriers in Ohio will begin to notify brokers and members.

This is welcome news for most still on grandmothered / transitional health plans due to the high cost of PPACA compliant health plans, on both the individual and small group health insurance markets. MCC is dedicated to keeping our clients and consumers updated on important news on the ever changing health insurance / employee benefit industry. Stay tuned for more updates throughout 2017.
